Sales & Use Tax
Kettering University does not pay sales tax on goods nor services providing that payment for these are made directly with University funds (for example, a University-issued check or credit card). If items are purchased for the University with cash, personal check, or personal credit card (including Internet purchases) the transaction is subject to Michigan sales tax even though the exempt organization (Kettering) will be providing reimbursement.
Sales tax must be included on the original receipt or the Business Office will charge your index the prevailing sales tax rate and remit it to the State of Michigan. You may request the vendor to charge you sales tax at the point of sale to avoid this step.
Please remember it is in the University's best interest to utilize our recommended purchasing procedures using a Kettering University Funds or Materials Request or Kettering University issued Purchasing Card to minimize cost.
