Professional Affiliations

The Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives is affiliated with the following professional organizations:

NACME (National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, Inc.) provides leadership and support for the national effort to increase the representation of successful African American, American Indian and Latino women and men in engineering and technology, math and science-based careers. Since 1974, NACME has supported more than 20,000 underrepresented students who have received over $100 million in scholarship grants at 160 colleges and universities in all regions of the United States. Our vision is an engineering workforce that looks like America.  

SECME (Science, Engineering, Communication and Math Education) is a strategic alliance to renew and strengthen the professional capacity of K-12 educators, motivate and mentor students, and empower parents so that all students can learn and achieve at higher levels. SECME Mission is to increase the pool of historically underrepresented and under-served students who will be prepared to enter and complete post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); thus creating a diverse and globally competitive workforce.

NAMEPA (National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates) is a national network of educators and representatives from industry, government, and nonprofit organizations who share a common commitment to improving the recruitment and retention of African Americans, Hispanics, and American Indians earning degrees in engineering.

As a recognized authority in minority engineering education, NAMEPA promotes the professional development of its members and serves as an advocate for and resource to those programs and organizations that seek to recruit, educate, and employ diverse engineering talent.
